Yukimi Nagano is slinking about barefoot on stage. She’s dressed like Fred Flintstone minus the club. Halfway up her arm is an anchor tattoo, and a pink tambourine that looks more like an oversized bangle. Ever so often, she strokes or bumps it with her hip.
Listening with closed eyes, you may picture yourself in a bedroom, curtains sheer and swaying, or suddenly in the middle of a rainforest. Remember when the characters in Garden State mounted an abandoned crane, and screamed into the ravine? Then two of them started kissing. It was pouring. The camera pulled out and plunged back in—totally immersed. It wasn’t a cliché; the moment was a highlight in an otherwise crap film. It didn't change anyone's lives, but people latched onto it.
Why go to a live show if not for similar aspirations? With so many lists and invites and people to please, at the end of the day all Flaunt wants is to be touched.
Lucky us. This Swedish infusion of kinky keys, jazzy reggae and sizzling percussion (deemed “the heartbeat” of an ensemble) takes everything down a notch. Evidently, the best excuse for not going out at night is: We’re listening to Little Dragon—some of today’s finest sex music.
And no, it won’t give you facial horns.
Set it in your datebook ahead of time: On July 18th, KCRW will air Thursday’s session on Morning Becomes Eclectic. Along with 89.9 FM's affable host Garth Trinidad’s interview with Little Dragon, you will also get the rare chance to hear the set you missed:
Twice
Ritual Union
Never Never
Little Man
Brush the Heart
My Step
Summertearz
Nightlife
Blinking Pigs
…and an encore performance, part rebel part rush, that you’ll have to discover on your own.
So tune in—trust us, only six days after Ritual Union’s July 12th summer drop, you’ll want to be singing more.
